Biker War in Pretoria? Who Is Telling the Real Story?

    ByRiaan Roux 14 October 202614 October 2026

An update on the Little Britain Pub shooting in Waterkloof, Pretoria. The accused has appeared in court, the state has given its version of what happened at the door, and his bail application is set down for 20 October. It is also my view on where information comes from, and why the public only gets the version of whoever is willing to talk.

Do Asylum Seekers Now Count as South Africans for Jobs? Employment Services Amendment Bill

    ByRiaan Roux 13 October 202613 October 2026

The Employment Services Amendment Bill takes refugees and asylum seekers out of the definition of a foreign national, and the bill’s own memorandum says they get the same employment status as citizens. The department calls the claims a myth. Here are the questions people are asking, answered from the bill itself, and how to make a submission before 6 November 2026.

    ByRiaan Roux 13 October 202613 October 2026

About 1 million South Africans pay most of the personal income tax, and the numbers come from Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana’s own replies to Parliament. Here is what he told Parliament, what economist Dawie Roodt says a R1 million family gets back for every rand, whether the state could pay its bills without these taxpayers, and what the answer was when an MP asked for a target to ease the burden.

11 Days of Chaos: The Truth Behind the Home Affairs Directive

    ByRiaan Roux 9 October 20269 October 2026

On 9 October 2026, the Department of Home Affairs withdrew its asylum directive. The Home Affairs directive, issued by the Director-General’s office on 28 September, told refugee offices to accept asylum applications from anyone who asks, including people who entered South Africa illegally. Within days, thousands queued outside refugee offices, March and March blocked the Durban refugee centre, and on 8 October cars burned in Soweto and Durban. The department says no minister or other political office-bearer knew about the directive, and that nobody could have foreseen its consequences. On 5 October, its own spokesperson said on 702 that the numbers were going to overwhelm the department.

Should Petrol Cost R10 a Litre?

    ByRiaan Roux 8 October 20268 October 2026

A video claiming South Africans should pay around R10 a litre for petrol is circulating again after 95 petrol rose to R30.25 a litre in Gauteng on 7 October 2026. The R10 in that video is the 2021 cost of the fuel at the harbour, not a pump price, and today that part alone costs R17.44. Tax and levies add R7.46 a litre, and that is the part of the price the ANC-led government decides. On the same day the price went up, the ANC’s own MPs asked an ANC finance minister to cut those levies.
